Svit HO
a public registry of Ukrainian civil society organizations · project summary

A registry that puts what the state knows about a civil society organization side by side with what the organization claims about itself.

Not a rating, not a seal of trust — a tool that shows the facts next to each other and lets the reader draw their own conclusion.

The problem

A donor, partner, or journalist who wants to check a civil society organization today has to gather the information by hand, every time, from scratch: the state registry in one place, the organization's own site and social media in another, press mentions somewhere else again. There is no single, neutral, fact-based source that already brings these pieces together. Svit HO closes exactly that gap — without claiming the role of judge.

What's already done

This isn't an idea on paper — the research pipeline and the product design already run on real data.

1,101
organizations manually checked against the state registry — out of an initial list of 1,102 NGOs with no website or email on file
385
records directly confirmed (legal entity, national registry code)
2
interface mockups ready — the homepage and an organization profile card

How an organization's profile card is built

1

State registry

Legal facts — registration code, founding date, director — taken from the official source. This is the baseline, and we don't interpret it.

2

Claimed by the organization

Areas of work, partnerships, projects — what the organization reports about itself, flagged as "not verified".

3

Cross-reference

Matches and discrepancies between the two are shown as plain facts — no verdict, no hidden conclusions.

4

Trace of activity

Verifiable traces of concrete actions — news, reports, dated posts of the organization's own. An empty field means the search is still open, not proof of inactivity.

An empty field in a profile card means "not yet checked", not an accusation. This is a deliberate design choice — so the registry stays a tool of facts, not a tool of pressure.

What the two mockups show

Mockup 1

Homepage

  • Search by name or registration code
  • The methodology explained in four steps
  • An automatic feed of registry updates — kept separate from sector news
  • An invitation for organizations to verify and refine their own profile
Mockup 2

Organization profile card

  • Core facts, data completeness, and in-depth assessment as three separate layers
  • A "Finances" section and a network of affiliations
  • A dated history of changes to the card
  • Several real organizations with clean, confirmed records

These are static, interactive mockups to review the interface's structure and logic — not a working site. Buttons and search are decorative here.

What's needed to move forward

From mockups and pilot data to a public platform

The research methodology and the design have been tested on real data. The next stage is building the working site, connecting the full state registry (instead of manual lookups), and scaling verification across the whole sector.

  • Funding for platform development and hosting
  • Partnerships with organizations invested in sector transparency (donors, CSO coalitions, media)
  • Technical expertise for an ongoing integration with the state registry
